- **** Warning and all that jazz
-
- I have personally used this program for quite some time, I was just
- incourged to release to for the joy and happy computering of you the user.
- I will not take any responiblity for Data Loss or anything, however is
- something like this should happen (strongly doubt it) I would like to know
- about it as soon as possible, and exactly how you had it set up etc..
-
- AND PLEASE!!!! don't use this is you use Stacker, Super Store or
- anything like that!!!!! I don't use the compressions and have know way of
- knowing if this thing would crash your system.. So unless you have alot
- of guts... DON'T EVEN TRY IT!!!! But I would like to know if you did use
- it and didn't have any problems.. and how you did it so I can add that
- to the next release..
-
- **** Why these programs?
-
- Well one day while I was working on someone's computer and getting it set
- up to run better I included with it a set of batch files in which I have
- either made of copied the idea of the batch file off of a friend. I included
- them onto his computer and told him how to use them and he suggested I made
- a real program that did what these batch files did, well I have tried over
- the past month I really haven't had to much time to really work on it, but
- I have finially come up with a first release. I plan on programing a actual
- program in C and releaseing it sometime this summer. However I have programed
- the REBOOT.EXE program and thank those that put together the Programing for
- DOS frequently asked questions, that gave the the information I needed to
- make sure the memory was clear before rebooting the system.. Thanks guys..
-
- **** How to use
-
- Well basicly it is a simple file, which is very easy to use.. You will
- notice that there are a bunch of .ZIP files, these are just examples of
- what I have on my system. Please make a directory called MODES on drive
- C: (C:\MODES). and copy all files into this directory. Now that you have
- done that you need to edit the PKZIP.BAT and PKUNZIP.BAT files to work with
- your system. (NOTE: I have my PKZIP.BAT file set up for PKZip 2.04g with the
- -ex command for maximum compression, however these files really don't get
- very big anyway so it probably really doesn't matter).
-
- Now comes the fun part.. You can do one of a couple of things, copy the
- .BAT files and the SETMODE.COM file to the DOS directory, or create a
- .BAT file to use the SETMODE.COM in the MODES directory.. however all you
- really have to have in the MODES directory is the .ZIP files. Also edit
- the MODE.DAT file to say whatever you want and copy that to the C:\ directory.
- Notice that I have mine in a ANSI format but it doesn't have to be.
- The MODE.DAT file is just a file that gets changed along with the
- AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, you use the SHOW.BAT file to show you
- what mode you are in. I would suggest you put the same mode name in here as
- your .ZIP file name, notice that the MODE.DAT I have included says I am in
- NORMAL mode and I have a NORMAL.ZIP file.
-
- Now type SETMODE /n and press the enter key. you will notice that you
- have an error and it should not reboot if you used the /n command. and
- you will notice that your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files and another one
- called MODE.DAT got ziped into a file called OLD.ZIP, everytime you use the
- SETMODE command the first thing it does is takes your old files and
- puts them into a OLD.ZIP, this is so if you made changes to your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS files you can now copy those changes to
- whatever filename you want.. Now that this OLD.ZIP file has been made COPY
- the OLD.ZIP to your FILENAME.ZIP. You have just created your first SETMODE
- file. Now that you have done this you can freely go through your AUTOEXEC.BAT
- and your CONFIG.SYS file, (don't forget the MODE.DAT) and change them to
- whatever you need. then type SETMODE /n to make another OLD.ZIP file. and
- copy that to another FILENAME.ZIP file.
-
- Now all you need to know now is when you want to change a mode all you
- do is type SETMODE NORMAL (DO NOT INCLUDE THE .ZIP extention) and the
- program will make the OLD.ZIP and pkunzip the NORMAL.ZIP file over the old
- AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS and MODE.DAT files, and then if you don't put a
- /n before or after the mode file name it will reboot your system..
-
- Example:
-
- To reboot your system:
- SETMODE NORMAL
-
- to just change files:
- SETMODE /n NORMAL
- or
- SETMODE NORMAL /n
-
- that's all there is to it..
-
- OH a couple more things..
-
- if you do a SETMODE /? you will get a brief menu to show you what you
- might have forgot..
-
- /n is just used if you do not wish to reboot you system after changing
- the files.. NOTE: this might be handy if you need to change a path is all
- your ZIP files or something like that.
